READY 2 GROW

Where Young People Grow More Than Just Vegetables

READY 2 GROW is a hands-on agriculture and healthy living program designed to introduce youth to gardening, sustainability, and the power of growing their own food.

Participants explore the full journey of growing produce, from preparing the soil and planting seeds to harvesting fresh crops right on the farm. Along the way, they build confidence, responsibility, leadership skills, and a deeper connection to nature.

This is not just about gardening.
It is about life skills, community, health, and growth.

What Participants Will Learn

Through guided, hands-on instruction, youth will:

  • Select crops intentionally by learning how to identify vegetables that thrive in our local climate and season, understanding planting calendars, and making informed growing decisions.

  • Prepare soil for healthy growth by testing, amending, and enriching soil to create strong foundations for productive gardens.

  • Plant and nurture crops from seed to harvest by practicing proper spacing, watering techniques, weed management, and daily plant care.

  • Harvest and store produce properly by recognizing peak ripeness, using safe harvesting techniques, and learning best practices for preserving freshness.

  • Practice sustainable gardening methods including composting, water conservation, crop rotation, and environmentally responsible growing habits.

  • Studies show school garden programs can improve science achievement and environmental literacy.

    • Children working with soil and plants often show improved focus and calmer nervous systems. Outdoor agricultural activities can function as natural emotional regulation.

    • Food becomes a bridge to heritage and belonging.

    • It’s physical activity that feels purposeful rather than forced.

 Volunteer With READY 2 GROW

Volunteers show up with patience, purpose, and a willingness to work alongside the young people we walk alongside.

Volunteers may contribute through:

  • Youth mentoring and encouragement, helping participants stay engaged, supported, and confident throughout the program.

  • Garden preparation and maintenance, assisting with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, and general farm upkeep.

  • Educational support, helping facilitate activities, demonstrations, and hands-on learning moments.

  • Nutrition and cooking engagement, supporting conversations and demonstrations around healthy food habits.

  • Event and administrative support, assisting with registration, check-in, special events, and program coordination.

Because we serve youth, background screening and child safety policies are in place to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

If you are ready to help young people grow skills, confidence, and healthy habits, we would love to have you.
